A Night Out in Zhuhai

Hey everybody,
It’s me again. Missed me already?

My time in Zhuhai is flying by! Unbelievable! Just had my first weekend here.

I have to admit that I was a little lazy on Friday. I had a long Skype call with my parents, watched a movie and went to bed. But that was only to be up and awake on Saturday. Starting the day by having breakfast, doing the laundry and doing our nails. Jenny (my beloved flat mate and colleague) and I decided to clean the kitchen and prepare the freezer for the coming summer.

During these activities we got a message that there will be a burger-eating competition at London Lounge (a British bar really close to our flat and the beach).

We did not join in but we did enjoy a normal-sized burger with fries and fish & chips whilst observing the competition. They even had deep fried Snickers Bars. Those 1-kg burgers were so huge:

After that we went for a run along the lovers road, passing the fisher girl .

Having showered and with the plan to go to the bar street, we took the bus and met some of the interns at one of the bars there. Inside some guy was on stage singing Chinese songs. As it was really nice and warm weather on Saturday we sat outside. Some fires were burning and the trees were lighted. It was romantic.

Having drank a cocktail or two we went on our search for a nice Club (first night clubbing in Zhuhai for me). In the first club which we entered, I noticed that there were tables in the whole place. And the people who were standing around those tables were served by waiters. I don’t know about you but I never saw such a club before. Unfortunately all tables were taken so we went out again to search for another club.

In this club, it was the same situation as in the first, tables were everywhere but they had more space in between. When we came in, there was a Chinese guy singing and the whole club sang along from time to time. We tried to join in a little! Some minutes later the stage was open to jump on and dance. Which we did. Funny thing that you could see was that in the beginning there were only foreigners dancing. But later some Chinese dared to show their dancing skills and soon two of them asked us to join their table. They invited us for some Chinese wine and a Budweiser.

Being back on the dance floor it didn’t take long for a woman to invite us to her table. VIP this time. They had a huge bottle of cognac on their table and also Chinese wine. We were offered different fruits, snacks and green tea, too.

Also, I was presented with a really expensive bouquet by one Chinese guy. Awesome!

InternChina – I have a fan

It was a really nice evening in which we made a lot of local friends. I am looking forward to our next night out.

See you and 再见,

Gianna aka Gini aka 吉娜。

P.S. Some of you might want to know what happened to my back after the cupping about which I told you in my last blog. Well, those circles act like normal bruises even though they are much bigger and unusually many. At the moment they have some green-yellowish color. My back still feels a little sore I have to admit…

InternChina Weekend Trip to Guangzhou!

As I was studying one year in Guangzhou before my internship at InternChina I was pretty excited about organizing the trip to Guangzhou. I wanted to show everyone the city where I spent the last year in China.
We were a nice group of 12 people. We left Zhuhai on a Friday evening after work. We took the super-convenient high speed train to Guangzhou, which takes around one hour (one way 70 RMB). From the Guangzhou South Railway Station it was about 30 minutes to our hostel by metro.

We dropped our stuff off in the hostel and went to the BBQ nearby for dinner. It was a really relaxed evening. We were talking and drinking till late into the night.

On Saturday morning we met again for breakfast together and to do some sightseeing. I took the interns first to the Yuexiu Park. In the Park we found some rides, it was like a little amusement park. We had some fun on the rides, and after that we even rented some boats to row around the lake. Despite all the bumping into each other and terrible rowing skills, thankfully no people or boats were capsized or harmed. 

In the Yuexiu Park there is also the Guangzhou Museum, where we learned a little about Guangzhou city’s history.

After the Yuexiu Park we went to the Liwan Lake Park. It is a beautiful park with Chinese architecture, a lot of lakes and a beautiful night scenery. It was nice to walk around, take pictures and chill a bit.

Having been on our feet all day, everyone was pretty exhausted by the evening, but as we only had one weekend in Guangzhou, I wanted to follow my plan strictly! So after the parks, I gave everyone some time to get ready before we set out for the night.

I booked a table in a Teppanyaki Restaurant. Teppanyaki is Japanese and you get a big table with your personal cook, who will prepare the food in front of you. It is one of my favorite restaurants because the food is just amazing!!! You pay 168 RMB and you can drink and eat what you want for 2 hours. We ordered A CRAZY AMOUNT OF FOOD!!!!!! We had steaks, sushi, different kinds of seafood, different desserts, a lot of Sake (Japanese Alcohol), beers, wine and so on. CRAZY!!! By the end we were fairly drunk, including our cook who was happily drinking with us. For most of the people it was the first time Teppanyaki so it was a very nice experience.

After the Teppanyaki we went to a nice Club in Guangzhou. We were dancing and having fun! We had an amazing night!

The next day we met at noon to have some Dim Sum. Guangzhou is famous for its Dim Sum, which is Cantonese food. We went to the Guangzhou Restaurant chain, a famous restaurant with many branches around Guangzhou. After the brunch, we did not have anything planned, so everyone got some free time. Some went to the Gaungzhou Fake Market (where you can buy just EVERYTHING!) and some went to the famous Walking Street in Guangzhou for shopping.

We took the train back on Sunday evening. While we chatted about the trip, most agreed that the best part was probably the Teppanyaki, and the interns asked me when we could go back to Guangzhou. After that I was happy that my trip was pretty successful and everyone had a great time. 

Qipao-Party in Zhuhai

On Friday, September 6th, the Zhuhai office, IC interns and friends had a “Chinese Traditional Clothing”-Party at Sunny´s apartment. The girls came in beautiful dresses and the guys in really cool Chinese Pyjamas .
The Cheongsam (chinese 长衫 chángshān, means long dress) or Qipao (chinese 旗袍 qípáo) is the Chinese traditional dress for women.

Sunny prepared a lot of delicious food and everybody brought some beers, other beverages and snacks. It was a lot of fun. After a great evening of talking, laughing, eating and drinking we were in dancing mood so we headed to club “Coco”. Coco is famous for its luau theme and grilled chicken. Of course the Chinese people were starring at us and probably they were also thinking “Why are these foreigners wearing Chinese traditional clothes?” but it was a big hit and everyone wanted to take pictures with us.
