Role:
MADFI01 – Financial Analyst Intern for Cutting-edge Big Data Advisory Firm
Internship Description:
The job to be carried out by the analyst is the same as that of other existing members of the team, with lower levels of responsibility and higher levels of supervision.
The most important part of the job will consist of being – on day 1 – in the frontline of marketing and managing CCF transactions.
Almost 100% of CCF’s processes are structured, documented and designed in such a way as to remove the margin for human error.
**Tasks to be carried out by the Analyst:**
– Participate in the fundraising process by contacting institutional investors
– Assist/drive the Book Running of existing mandates to ensure maximum impact with investors
– Participate in client pitches and meetings
– For ongoing and new mandates, research and deepen knowledge of the existing pool of more than 16,000 investors that include both investment funds and corporates: Data to be captured into FileMakerPro / Claris via internet searches and CCF databases: Crunchbase, Sifted, Linkedin, and others
– Organization of conference calls with investment funds and industrial investors to discuss investment specs
– Focused searches based on a specific opportunity
– Carry out financial analysis for new deals and new clients
– Assist partners and senior associates in drafting client and investor presentations
– Pitch documentation
– Financial models
– Data room preparation
– Update the CCF investors database by performing investor research and calls and capturing their investment thesis
– Other tasks as required
Internship Requirements:
**Analyst Skills:**
– Ability to analyze a company’s financials and identify key issues therein:
\- Understanding of the key issues and interactions between a P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement
– Understanding of transaction-specific analytical tools: cash flow forecasts, sources & uses of funds, etc.
– Understanding of key characteristics of legal structures and instruments:
\- Parent/subsidiary, JV, servicing agreements and SLAs, holdings
\- Ability to synthesize heterogeneous information and simplify it into an impactful message
\- Ability to make numbers “speak”
\- Ability to draft documentation for institutional investors
\- Ability to conduct investor calls independently and to reach out to investors with limited supervision initially, then fully independently within 3-4 months
**Languages:**
– Perfect English to convince investors (if you say you’re “bilingual in English,” we expect you to be…). Optional: Spanish to participate in and follow client meetings
– Impact: the ability to influence clients and potential investors in CCF transactions and to push them to examine our deals
– This is not for you if you’re shy or afraid to pick up the phone
**Intern Characteristics:**
Analytical rigor:
– Based on sample models, the Analyst will be expected to review, sometimes create, Excel models that are well structured, documented, formatted properly, easy to follow, etc
– Ability to document work and daily interactions with investors
**Self-drive:**
– A significant portion of the work (e.g., 2/3) is desktop analysis, combined with direct contact with investors (1/3)
– The host company will do its maximum to bring you into client meetings and conference calls to give life to your work, but they expect you to manage your time based on set objectives with minimal supervision
– Within the first couple weeks, and after initial research, you must contact investment funds and corporates to deepen CCF’s knowledge of their investment criteria
**Financial imagination & creativity:**
Sometimes, the market shows us and the client how to adapt our financial instrument to achieve success. The more you know this financial instrument, and the more you contribute, the better…
**Industry interest:**
The host company is sector-agnostic, and given our wide variety of mandates, they look for people who can rapidly get their heads around any situation. That said, 80% of their current corporate mandates are tech mandates, so if you know a specific industry sector, let them know….
