Pagoda Projects is an award-winning organisation in the International Higher Education sector, providing internship programmes to universities and government-funded organisations. We have placed over 2500 students and recent graduates from countries all over the world in China, Vietnam & Mexico since 2007. OUR CURRENT OPPORTUNTIES

The ideal candidate will be in the first few years of their graduate career, looking for an exciting new challenge with a growing organisation in the higher education sector. You’ll need to be passionate about Mexico and confident growing our programme after our successful pilot in 2019. The role will be mainly based in Mexico City, with regular extended trips back to Manchester.

Responsibilities

  • Build on relationships with existing partner companies in Mexico City
  • Grow our corporate partnerships in Mexico City to significantly increase the number of internships available as part of our programme
  • Work with our partner university in Mexico City
  • Recruit and support a member of local staff in Mexico
  • Work with our small team in Manchester to get to know our organisation, our values and what makes an outstanding programme
  • Consult with our team about the specific challenges and opportunities related to our programme in Mexico
  • Communicate with our university partners in the UK and other countries regarding our programme in Mexico
  • Book suitable accommodation for participants in line with our budget and quality policy
  • Oversee the student application and booking administration, manage the participant placement process
  • Create written, photo and video content for marketing purposes

Our Offer

  • Salary: £20,000 Annual Salary
  • Bonus: Annual bonus based on participant numbers

General responsibilities and role assumptions:

The role of an programme support assistant in our Mexico office will give you a close insight into the day-to-day running of an international business. We are a relatively small business, so you will be welcomed as part of the family and able to enjoy a friendly working atmosphere. We are looking for someone to help organise and run our existing programme in addition to planning for future programmes.

We have 5 main areas of the role that we’ll ask you throughout the application process of what you’re interested in, which are: managing accommodation, business development, marketing, events management and administration. A summary of the duties can be found in the internship description below.

Job Description:

  • Answering participant enquiries and problem solving
  • Offering recommendations for restaurants, activities, trips and sites to visit in and around Mexico City
  • Contacting landlords, landladies, cleaners and handypersons to help maintain participant apartments
  • Researching accommodation options for foreigners in Mexico City
  • Helping to research and reach out to potential internship companies in Mexico City
  • Offering advice on safety and local information regarding changes in the city that might affect participants
  • Creating resources in English for participants that will help with professional development, cultural understanding of Mexico
  • Help take photos, footage and record content for social media platforms about the programme and the participants
  • Give advice on how to get around the city and where to buy things
  • Prepare and send out emails, newsletters and update internal admin systems for the programme
  • Attend networking events, prospect and meet with potential internship host companies in Mexico City

Requirements:

  • Fluent Spanish and a good level of spoken and written English
  • Student or recent graduate
  • Students on business or language courses, but applicants with any degree program will be considered
  • Tech savvy. Able to use office software effectively
  • Familiar with all main social networking sites
  • Hard-working, committed and a fast learner
  • An insider’s knowledge of Mexico City
  • Problem solving and critical thinking
  • A passion for Mexican food and culture is a must!
  • Any prior knowledge of WordPress, PowerPoint (or design software) would be beneficial
  • A passion for photography, filming and documenting life would be beneficial
  • An interest in learning more about digital marketing
  • Experience working with tourists or students would be useful (or an interest in doing so!)
  • Flexibility with regards to working hours

What’s Included:

  • The 2-month full time job located at our Mexico City office from July 2019 to September 2019 (immediate start date open for discussion)
  • Monday to Friday working hours with additional overtime for weekend activities

We are looking for a recent graduate with experience living in the UK. Our ideal candidate is a Chinese national with significant understanding of international student life and western students’ mindset. We may also consider a non-Chinese candidate who qualifies for the China residents permit and fulfils our requirements for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral support to participants on InternChina programmes in Chengdu, being available 24 hours for significant emergencies when necessary
  • Deliver thorough and enthusiastic orientation sessions for new arrivals on InternChina programmes
  • Ensure professional internship and accommodation related support is provided in a structured manner throughout all participants’ programmes in Chengdu
  • Programme development (Chengdu); Identifying new internship opportunities, visiting prospective partner companies and networking in order to develop opportunities in Chengdu
  • Office management; ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in Chengdu and motivating the team
  • Chengdu group programme planning, oversight and follow-up
  • Recruiting and supporting local staff to provide quality accommodation for Chengdu programmes
  • Managing IC office interns
  • Staff training
  • Manage office finances; handle cash, payments and accounting
  • Enquiry and booking administration, managing the participant placement process for Chengdu
  • Create occasional press releases and blog posts
  • Assist the team in producing social media content
  • Consult with the management team on overall strategy and general management issues
  • Travel within China where required to meet with colleagues in other branches, assist with delivery of group programmes and oversee participant group trips

We are a relatively small and family-run business, so you will be welcomed as part of the family and able to enjoy a friendly working atmosphere. The office internships we offer have variety of duties, but each role is tailored to every candidate and their skills.

We have 5 main areas of the role that we’ll ask you throughout the application process of what you’re interested in, which are: sales, business development, marketing, events management and design. A summary of the duties can be found in the internship description below.

Internship Description:

  • Handling of applications, participant data management, and general administration tasks.
  • If the intern has the interest: Video filming and editing, Photoshop design for a multitude of different purposes. In house training available.
  • Communicate with our university partners and establish new partnerships.
  • Create press releases and China related articles, then aim to get them published for press exposure in your home country.
  • Local marketing: occasional flyering and postering, visiting relevant events and networking.
  • Assisting our China-based online marketing team by posting positions on relevant job boards and university careers pages.
  • Blog writing, posting on social networks and contributing to relevant online forums.
  • Email newsletter creation using Mailchimp and photoshop.
  • Assist with the coordination of our alumni network, gather feedback and create relevant statistics for marketing purposes.
  • Assisting your office manager with administration, answering client questions and working on on-going group projects and scholarship schemes which InternChina is currently working on.
  • Arranging regular events, activities and trips for groups of interns.

  • Student or recent graduate
  • Fluent in English. Another European language would be a plus but not a must.
  • Students on business, language or Chinese Studies related degree programs are preferred, but applicants with any degree program will be considered.
  • Tech savvy. Able to use office software effectively.

  • Enthusiastic about travel and discovering new cultures.

What’s Included:

  • The full time internship located at one of our Mainland China offices.
  • A private bedroom in our accommodation throughout your time in China. You’ll have a choice between apartment or our homestay option. All bills and WiFi included for both options, breakfast and evening meals included with the homestay.
  • Fully comprehensive medical and travel insurance for the duration of the internship.
  • 10 hours of group language Mandarin Chinese classes at our local partner language school.
  • 24/7 support from the InternChina team throughout the programme.

If accepted onto the programme there is no programme fee to pay but you would need to cover the cost of your flights, visa and day to day spends in China.
