Organisation Description:
This host company is a pioneering UK Thailand-based company dedicated to sustainable and innovative biochar production through the Kontiki kiln process. They’re building a national network of ‘farm-to-farm’ solutions where they use waste agricultural biomass to create biochar fertiliser. This will have a significant impact in reducing agricultural environmental impact and whilst enhancing agricultural practices by transforming organic waste into high-quality biochar.
Role:
Engineer Intern
Internship Description:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, operations, and production to identify areas of improvement within the Kontiki kiln process
- Design, plan, and execute experiments and trials to test new process modifications, technologies, and equipment
- Analyze data and results to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization in biochar production
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and effectiveness of the Kontiki kiln process
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of process modifications, results, and lessons learned.
- Monitor and troubleshoot ongoing production processes, identifying and rectifying issues to minimize downtime and maximize output
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in biochar production, kiln technology, and sustainable practices to inform process evolution
- Collaborate with external experts, suppliers, and partners to leverage their insights and technologies in improving the Kontiki kiln process
N.B. tasks and projects may vary depending on current priorities. Specific projects and responsibilities will be discussed during an interview.
Internship Requirements:
- Studying for or completed a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- A desire to learn and be part of a process optimization within a production or manufacturing environment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and implement data-driven decisions
- Proficiency in engineering software/tools for process simulation, modeling, and analysis would help
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative mindset to develop innovative solutions
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex ideas clearly
- Passion for sustainability, environmental conservation, and circular economy principles
