Carbon-conscious study tours in Amsterdam and Brussels

SGE Europe is Pagoda’s flagship SGE programme.

Students take part in one week of Carbon Literacy Training, followed by a 5-night field trip in Amsterdam or Brussels.

Developed for our UK and European university partners, this two-week programme explores the theme of Sustainability in relation to the SDGs listed below.

Phase 2 - Five-day field trip

A one-week field trip to Amsterdam or Brussels

Orientations, scavenger hunts and organised group activities
Masterclasses, tours and talks with local businesses
Guided city tours and paid-for tourist attractions
Group projects and presentation sessions
Full support from Pagoda’s in-country team

Health and travel insurance

Amsterdam - Holland

Amsterdam is the fifth most eco-friendly city in the world and constantly tops global rankings for its green policies and credentials. Known for its winding canals, love of cycling and eco-friendly restaurants, sustainability is more than a buzzword in Amsterdam - it’s a way of life. Working towards the goal of being completely emission-free by 2030, Amsterdam’s CleanTech and renewable energy industries are leading the city’s large-scale innovations in sustainability. Home to some of the most sustainable communities and grassroots initiatives, Amsterdam proudly remains an ideal destination for students to explore the UN’s SDGs.

Brussels - Belgium

Brussels is the greenest capital in Europe. Just over 50% of the city is classified as green space, with a succession of parks winding their way through the urban landscape. Strongly committed to sustainable development, the city plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. Known for its sustainable buildings, ‘green roofs’, waste management and public transport, Brussels is leading the way when it comes to urban development. A vibrant and multicultural city, it’s also home to NATO and the European Parliament, making it a hugely exciting city to study sustainability and politics on a global scale.

Programme Overview

Our SGE programmes explore sustainable development in theory and practice.

They are designed to widen participation for students from underrepresented groups who struggle to take part in longer mobility programmes. Short, closer to home and at an affordable cost per student, SGE is inclusive for all students – no matter their background or area of study.

Ensuring all students are happy and feel supported during their internship is our number one priority. The pagoda team will provide outstanding support for all students on the programme. This includes:

+ Online support from our friendly team to ensure they successfully complete their Carbon Literacy Training and pledges

+ Pre-departure information sessions to ensure students are prepared for their field trip

+ Experienced programme leaders who are fully trained in first aid and mental health

+ Comprehensive travel and health insurance for every participant

+ Automatic enrollment into our alumni network providing news, events, graduate job openings and opportunities for further study
