Yes! China is very safe, including for solo-female travellers.

Like many other countries, there is a higher risk of petty theft near tourist attractions, and visitors should always be aware that they are seen as easier targets for scams. However, as long as you stay alert and use your common sense, these situations are avoidable.

There is no requirement to speak Mandarin to take part in the programme and you will be able to enjoy day-to-day life in China without being a fluent Mandarin speaker. No doubt, you will naturally start to pick up some words as soon as you arrive!

There is no teaching experience required. You will complete a free online TEFL course before departing and then 2 weeks of teacher training in China before you start teaching.

Not at all! All that is required is an undergraduate degree in any field.

Your school will assign a mentor teacher to help with your teaching and living, and to answer any questions or concerns you might have. You will also be connected with other teachers on the programme for peer support.

The students will be in state schools, at the primary and secondary levels, although all levels are possible. Student ages will range from 4 to 18 years old. If you prefer to teach at a specific grade level, this may be considered.

Since 2015, over 1000 graduates have taken part in the CEAIE’s Teach in China programme.
